# Checkout recipes skill

> Install the registry as an agent skill so your agent looks a site up, follows the recipe and contributes what it learns.

Install one skill and your agent will check the registry before every checkout, follow the recipe, hand challenges to you, and report back what it learned.

## Install

```bash theme={null}
npx skills add selfxyz/agent-checkout-skill
```

The skill installs through [skills.sh](https://skills.sh) and works with Claude
Code, Cursor, Codex and other agents that support it.

Then ask your agent to buy something:

> buy [https://shop.example.com/product/thing](https://shop.example.com/product/thing) and stop before submitting payment

## What the skill teaches

<Steps>
  <Step title="Look the site up first">
    Query the registry for the page before touching the cart, sending only the
    stripped URL.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow the recipe phase by phase">
    Add to cart, contact, billing, payment, place order, then confirm the
    outcome.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Hand off any challenge">
    On 3-D Secure, a one-time code, a CAPTCHA or a silent block, stop and hand
    the page to a person. Never solve or guess.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Stop cleanly at a dead end">
    On a site that can never work unattended, stop and say which dead end it is.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Contribute what it learned">
    Submit a recipe after the run, including a dead end.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Two skills, two jobs

Install both. They cover different halves of a purchase.

See [Rules of engagement](/mcp/rules-of-engagement) for what the `agent-vault`
skill contains.

## Use the data without the skill

The registry is plain JSON. Nothing needs installing to read it:

```bash theme={null}
curl -sG "$SELF_AGENT_PAY_API_URL/v1/recipes" \
  --data-urlencode "url=https://shop.example.com/product/thing"
```

See [Look up a recipe](/registry/lookup).

## Work on the registry itself

The repository at [github.com/selfxyz/agent-checkout-skill](https://github.com/selfxyz/agent-checkout-skill)
is a read-only export of the live registry, refreshed daily.

```bash theme={null}
bun install
bun run build     # dist/registry.json (full bundle) and dist/RECIPES.md
bun run validate  # schema and registry-wide rules
```

* Pull requests that change **recipes** are closed with a pointer to
  [Contribute a recipe](/registry/contribute).
* Pull requests for the **skill, schema, tooling and documentation** are welcome.

## Supported platforms

Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe Checkout, Stripe Payment Links, Lemon Squeezy,
Paddle, Gumroad, BigCommerce, Squarespace Commerce, Wix Stores, Ecwid, Snipcart,
FastSpring and Big Cartel.

The bundled `checkout-playbooks.md` carries the per-platform detect, add-to-cart,
card-field and place-order steps, and the failure taxonomy that sorts every
failure into retryable, fixable or dead end.
